Kanpur to Strengthen E-Rickshaw Operations

Kanpur: To streamline the operation of e-rickshaws in the city, the Kanpur Municipal Corporation has decided to implement a new registration process and tracking system. As part of this initiative, each e-rickshaw will be assigned a QR code, which will be affixed to the vehicle. Through this system, mobile apps will provide information about the vehicle’s owner, driver’s details, registration number, address, and the routes on which the e-rickshaws operate.

Introduction of QR Codes for E-Rickshaws
Each e-rickshaw will be assigned a unique QR code, which will be affixed to the vehicle. The mobile app will allow users to access information such as the registration number, owner’s details, driver’s information, and the routes the e-rickshaws follow. This system will make it easier to track the routes on which the e-rickshaws are operating.

Traffic Management and Online Fines for Violations
The traffic department has already set 30 routes for e-rickshaws. After registration, e-rickshaws will be monitored under an Integrated Traffic Management System. E-rickshaws that break traffic rules will be detected by cameras and fined online.

Current Status of E-Rickshaws in Kanpur
Currently, about 90,000 e-rickshaws are operating in Kanpur, but only 40,000 are registered. The registration process will now include assigning specific routes to each e-rickshaw, and any vehicle found operating outside the approved routes will face action.

Tendering Process and Companies Involved
The Kanpur Municipal Corporation invited tenders between December 24 and December 31 for developing the required systems. LUCKNOW-based M/s Quare E-Technologies Pvt Ltd has been awarded the tender for mobile app development and QR code printing, while Kanpur’s M/s Defic Enterprises will handle the web application development.

Work to Begin Soon, March Deadline Set
